Charities Supported

The following charities are supported by 100+ Women in the Des Moines Area:

Dorothy's House (Dorothy's House): A safe place for teen girls whose lives have been interrupted by the sex trafficking industry. Dorothy's House gives them an opportunity to heal.

HCI Care Services (Cavanagh House): Our winning presentation for November 2016 - Central Iowa Hospice Care.

Shoes that Fit (Shoes That Fit): Our winning presentation for August 2016 - An organization that provides new shoes and other necessities to kids in need.

Levi Knock Pay it Forward Foundation: Our winning presentation on May 3rd. Provides scholarships for children and young teens in the sciences and arts.

After School Arts Program (ASAP): Our winning presentation on Feb 3rd, 2016 - an after school arts program for select 1st thru 8th graders at Des Moines Public Schools.

St Mary Center: Our winning presentation on Nov 4th, 2015. Distributes 8,500 food boxes each month to families in need.

Dorothy's House: Our winning presentation on August 4th; Dorothy's house provides a safe place for victims of human trafficking.

Young Women's Resource Center (YWRC): On May 4th our winning presentation was the Young Women's Resource Center. The Young Women's Resource Center works with girls and women ages 10-21 to provide support and education. We donated $10,700!

Red Door Campaign (Red Door Campaign): On Feb. 4th, our winning presentation was the Red Door Campaign. Located in Des Moines, this location hosts over 20 social programs a day.

FOCUS (Focus at DMPS): Our November winner was awarded $10,000.

Cornerstone Recovery (Cornerstone Recovery): Our August 2014 winner was awarded $11,250.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters (Big Brothers, Big Sisters): Our May 2014 winner.

I Have a Dream Foundation (I Have a Dream Foundation): Our February 2014 winner.

Chrysalis Foundation (Chrysalis Foundation): Our November 2013 winner.

New Horizons Adult Day Care (New Horizons Adult Day Care): Our August 2013 winning presentation was New Horizons Adult Day Care, which was awarded $11,125.

Amanda the Panda: (Amanda the Panda): Our May 2013 winning presentation was Amanda the Panda family Grief Center, which offers services for children and families struggling with death of a loved one in the state of Iowa.

Connection Cafe (Connection Cafe) was chosen in February 2013. This cafe serves lunch five days a week to homeless and low income individuals and families of all ages in downtown Des Moines.

Iowa Legal Aid (Iowa Legal Aid): was chosen in November 2012. Our $12,000 donation will help to cover the costs of the attorneys and staff at Iowa Legal Aid who serve victims of domestic abuse in and around Polk County.

Anawin Housing (Anawin) was chosen in August 2012. Anawin helps to build affordable housing for families in Polk County, over $13,000 was donated.

Children & Family Urban Ministries (CFUM) was chosen in May 2012. Over $13,000 was collected.

House of Mercy (House2Home) was chosen at our February 2012 meeting, $14,100 was collected & donated.

 

Lutheran Services Refugee Urban Garden Initiative (lutheran services refugee program) was chosen in our November meeting and was awarded $13,450.

 

Everybody Wins Iowa (everybody wins iowa) was awarded $15,000 in September 2011.

The Free Store (the free store) was awarded $16,300 in May 2011.

Youth Emergency Shelter Services of Iowa (yess) was awarded $16,000 in February 2011.

Catholic Charities (refugee resettlement) was awarded $14,500 at our December meeting.

Wildwood Ranch (wildwood hills ranch) was awarded $15,250 at our September gathering.

VNS - Child Protect (visiting nurse services)
was awarded $12,000 at our first gathering in June 2010.
